About these terms
These terms apply to general use of the Build Metacognition website, waitlist, and programs. Enrollment, checkout, or program materials may include more specific terms. If a more specific written policy conflicts with these website terms, the more specific policy controls for that program or purchase.
Educational purpose
Build Metacognition is intended to provide educational experiences in AI literacy, metacognition, responsible AI use, critical thinking, and related skills. Activities are designed for learning and discussion, not as professional legal, medical, mental-health, financial, or technical advice.
Build Metacognition is designed for students working around 5th-8th grade level.
Materials and activities may need to be adapted for a student's readiness, working grade level, experience, learning needs, school requirements, or family expectations.
Parent or guardian responsibility
For students under 18, a parent or guardian should review enrollment information, these terms, the privacy policy, and any third-party tool requirements. The parent or guardian is responsible for deciding whether the program and any required tools are appropriate for the student.
Parents, guardians, and educators should complete this form for students under 18. Please do not submit sensitive student information.
Parents or guardians should help students protect account credentials and personal information, follow household and school rules, and ask questions when an activity is unclear.
Student responsible-use expectations
Students are expected to use course materials, community spaces, and AI tools respectfully and for learning. Expectations include:
- Follow instructor directions and the rules of each tool or learning environment.
- Protect personal information and never share passwords or another person's private information.
- Do not use AI tools to harass, impersonate, deceive, threaten, or create harmful material.
- Respect other students, instructors, and the work or intellectual property of others.
- Ask a parent, guardian, or instructor before entering sensitive, private, or identifying information into a tool.
- Be honest about when and how AI contributed to an assignment or project.
AI tools can make mistakes
AI-generated output can be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, outdated, inappropriate, or confidently wrong. Students should not treat an AI response as automatically true.
Students are expected to check important claims against reliable sources, use their own judgment, and ask an adult or instructor when the stakes are high or the answer is uncertain.
AI is not a cheating shortcut
Students should not use AI to submit work they do not understand, hide how an answer was produced, bypass a teacher's rules, or misrepresent AI-generated work as entirely their own.
School, teacher, homeschool, charter, and learning-group rules may differ. Students and parents are responsible for understanding and following the rules that apply to their assignments and programs.
Third-party tools
Some activities may depend on third-party websites, AI services, classroom platforms, or communication tools. Those providers may have their own terms, age requirements, privacy practices, availability limits, and account rules.
Required tools and account expectations may be provided with enrollment or program materials. Families are responsible for reviewing those provider requirements and deciding whether an available tool is appropriate for the student.
No guarantee of outcomes
Participation does not guarantee a particular grade, academic result, admission decision, job opportunity, technical skill level, project result, or change in a student's habits. Results vary based on participation, practice, prior experience, tool availability, and other circumstances.
Course examples and demonstrations are educational illustrations, not promises that every student will produce the same result.
Payments, cancellations, and refunds
Prices, payment timing, cancellation rules, refund eligibility, missed-session policies, and transfer options will be provided during enrollment or checkout before payment is required. If there is a conflict between these website terms and a specific written enrollment, checkout, or program policy, the more specific written policy controls.
Cohort availability and scheduling
Joining a waitlist does not guarantee a seat. Cohorts may depend on scheduling, minimum enrollment, instructor availability, student fit, and program capacity.
Dates, times, instructors, format, or availability may change. Any material scheduling information will be provided through enrollment or program communications.
